Cynthia
asked for a woman sowing the stars from the moon. She commissioned this as
a black and white piece due to budget concerns; she later added color to the
image herself, so if you see the CD it is in full color.
Here
are some rough sketches I did to get ideas for the cover.
As
you can see, there were lots of thumbnails done, and none of them bear much
remblance to the final ink drawing. Cynthia asked for a more full-bodied woman
after seeing the sketches. I ended up working out details in the pencil on
the board before applying the ink, so the tight pencil ended up as the final
inking. Lots of influence by Mucha here, as Cynthia had asked for an Art Nouveau
look to the piece.
