3DFX Demo

Captivation Digital Laboratories

The demo for 3DFX's 3D graphics chip was a fairly large project with several programmers and 5 artists. I worked on only a portion of the areas, doing concept sketches and some of the 3-D modelling and textures. The following pieces are samples of some of the parts I worked on.
The Stargate used to port from one area to another.
Stargate rendered in 3D Stargate with Anubis in the Hub Room
Sketches for the Stargate used in the demo
The Stargate activated with its special effects put in by the programmers in code.
My model built in 3D Max for the stargate used to teleport to other areas in the demo.
My rough for the planned animation sequence of the Stargate. It builds itself up from the base, then the blue interior animation and flames occur.
Anubis about to enter the open stargate with the effects rendering.
The Mighty Isis Room, where Isis appears

Drawings and early versions of Isis' Control Room. As is frequently the case with concept sketches, the final product ended up quite different from the initial sketches. Betty Cunningham constructed and modeled most of the room in 3D with textures created by Betty, Diane Mello and Arlin Robins.
Isis Room
Final versions of the Mighty Isis Room, with Isis appearing on the round plaform in front of the wings. I modeled the wings; they move, then the special light effects occur around the platform and Isis appears.
The final version of Isis, designed and completed by Betty and animated by Taunya. She dances and her skirt flows around her.
My sketch for Isis' character and costume. 3DFX liked the body (well, okay, who wouldn't?) and the costume, but wanted a more attractive face. Well, she has character at least...
The Crocodile in the pool at the Temple Area
The crocodile that resided in the pool outside the Temple room. I did the 3D model in 3DMax, and the textures from scratch in Photoshop. He's constructed of a bit under 2000 polygons, which is low for a high-res model but quite high for most computer games on other platforms of that year.
The crocodile in his final location in the desert pool outside the temple.
The Crystal ram in the cave area
The Crystal Ram
Crystal ram in the cave
The crystal ram statue found within the Crystal Caves area of the Demo. The 3D model of the ram is actually a low polygon hollow model, and the crystal transparent texture is applied by the programmers using custom algorithms taking advantage of 3DFX's new chip capabilities.
The Main Hub Room where stargates grant access to all other areas in the demo.
The first pass at a 3D model for the Hub room which led to all the other areas in the demo. This room went through a lot of revisions.
Final Hub Room showing walls Final Hub Room; windows and smoke effects
The final version of the Hub room, showing the large glass exterior and the highly textured walls.
Anubis in the hub room
Anubis overlooking his domain in the completed Hub Room
The Temple Room Interior
The Temple room which had a highly reflective Snake Head with a crystal in its mouth that reflected the room. Textures and modelling mostly done by Betty Cunningham and Taunya Gren.
