Summer Grunts

Well, that last journal entry was a real downer! Things are doing so much better now it's like night and day. The boys are going to bed with their new routine easily around 8:00 p.m. every night, which lets Paul and I have some free time in the evenings. What a relief!

Allison arrives here in the Bay Area this coming Thursday to visit before we all trek down to LA for ConChord next week. I'm really looking forward to spending some time with her, and we hope to go on some nature walks with the boys in addition to seeing some of the more expected tourist spots. :) I don't think Allison quite realizes what she's in for with the boys...

I've been painting backdrops and props for our local Moms of Twins Club. The national convention is here in San Jose this coming weekend, and our local chapter is hosting several of the big activities. Painting stuff has been a great way to get to know people better, but it's a little odd to be one of very few artistic types in the club. It's made me realize I'm really used to hanging out with other friends who are artists too, so I tend to take creative ability for granted, and I tend to assume that there's someone else around who's as good or better than I am in that department. Odd to be a standout at art again after the blase attitude I get working as an illustrator from people in professional situations, but it's always nice to be appreciated!

So right now we have songs from Bear in the Big Blue House on. It's funny and rather scary how quickly Casey and Riley have become attached to that show and the characters; they were mesmerized the first time they saw it with Hailey (who introduced them to the show), but now they can actually point out who is who in the books they have of the characters. (Okay, so I'm largely responsible for the amount of exposure they've gotten recently; it's a kindly little show with good music, so who could blame me?) Paul is talking about learning a few of the songs for filking. :)

So the schedule the next few weeks is going to be crazy, with a night or so at the Moms of Twins Convention, touring around locally, then going to LA with the boys and all, then a day at Disneyland with friends, then driving back, more local visiting, then the following weekend we drive back down to LA with the boys for Paul's dad's 80th birthday party. Impossible to believe Ed's going to be 80; he's still hectically busy travelling and going to events and visiting friends. He looks maybe 60 to me. He's pretty crazy about his grandsons; he keeps talking about babysitting for us... Somehow I don't think he really knows what he's offering to get into. I hope the boys can weather all the travelling and visiting without too much stress and meltdown. It's going to play havok with their sleeping schedule, then we'll have to start it all up again to get them back on track. Hopefully it won't be too difficult (yes, I'm crossing my fingers!).

I'm off to try to clean up the little spare room to make it habitable while the boys are playing quietly in The Cage (that won't last very long, so must make the most of it!). Gack, where to put the cat box?? Hey, Riley is standing with a red face and grunting with effort. One guess what he's up to. Must go.
